OAKWOOD PARKS

In addition to its magnificent nature preserves, public and school playgrounds and quiescent parks, Oakwood has forever appreciated and protected its green spaces.  Oakwood has garnered its "Tree City, U.S.A." designation and continues to work diligently to preserve the trees which are so vital to the city of Oakwood.  Walking tours are offered "free" to Oakwood's most renowned nature areas:  Loy Garden, Elizabeth Garden, the lovely and colorful Smith Garden and Houk Stream.  Enjoy learning about Oakwood's history, horticulture and wildlife of these special green spaces.

 

LEISURE ACTIVITIES 

In Oakwood, the residents enjoy many leissure activities sponsored by the city and are administered by way of the department of Leisure Services.  You will find athletic and cultural activities, trips, classes, dances, art shows, health screenings and a lot more, which are presented throughout the calendar year to residents of all ages.  The Leisure Services Department is also responsible for maintaing the wonderful parks, natural areas and the many boulevards in cooperation with the Public Works Department.  The coveted location of OAKWOOD, adjacent to the cities of Dayton, Kettering, and on to Washington Township, Centerville, Bellbrook and Springboro, offerr citizens a variety of nearby leisure and cultural activities.  Recreation choices range from golf, boating, classical and country music performances at the Fraze Pavillion and noteworthy Schuster Center.  There is a wealth of attractions and special events to enjoy, namely The United States Air Force Museum, Paramount Kings' Island Amusement Park and The Beach Waterpark.

OAKWOOD COMMUNITY CENTER

TENNIS ~ Shafor and Orchardly Parks

PARKS ~ Orchardly Park, Shafor Park, (3.3 acres of playground, ballfield, basketball court, 6 tennis courts, fountain, & outdoor pool), and Fairridge Park, (Playground equipment, landscaping and access for the handicapped).  At Shafor Park, activities include summer day camp, tennis lessons, ice cream social and an annual concert.)  The Oakwood Community Center is next to the pool.
